Does Art Need to Match Your Interior?

So often we see people choosing art to fit their home — matching the sofa, the curtains, or the wall color. But what if your home doesn’t match your art? That’s my situation. And still, I want to print my work on canvas and hang it. Because art doesn’t ask for permission.

Art Is Not Wallpaper

It doesn’t have to blend in. It doesn’t have to follow trends or echo your furniture. Art exists to speak to you. Sometimes it contrasts with your interior, sometimes it elevates it. The point is not how it looks against a wall, but how it makes you feel when you see it every day.

Choosing the Right Format

Of course, the size of your space matters. I don’t have a giant blank wall to enjoy a full A0 print — but that doesn’t stop me. Here’s how I think about the formats:

  • A2 (42 × 59 cm): subtle, intimate, easy to place almost anywhere.
  • A1 (59 × 84 cm): bold enough to make a statement, still balanced in smaller rooms.
  • A0 (84 × 119 cm): the full immersive experience — if your wall allows it.

That’s the beauty of digital editions: each file is prepared in A0 high resolution (300 dpi), so you can print it in any size from A0 down to A3, without losing detail.

The Question to Ask

So the question isn’t: “Does this artwork match my apartment?”
The real question is: “Do I want to live with it?”

Because art doesn’t need to match your curtains. It only needs to match you.
